The Southern Region is the "cradle" of the Church of God in Christ. The formative years of the denomination were forged here and from this platform, the message of HOLINESS spread forth as a burning fire. Similarly, the Southern Region Youth Department of the International Youth Department has a rich history and stands tall as a trailblazer in the Church. We are comprised of five states: Alabama, Arkansas, Mississippi, Louisiana, and Tennessee. The first Regional Rally was held on January 27, 1998, in New Orleans, LA. It was first known as the "MY" Rally, reflecting a joint effort of the music and youth departments. It was held at Thompson Temple COGIC and the theme was "It's a MY Thang."

Since then, we have traveled to different states to inspire, network, and fellowship with the youth and youth workers in the Region. More recently, regional activities (the Rally and State Revivals) have grown tremendously—not only in numbers but spiritually also. We continue to seek greater impact and remain relevant with this generation. Youth, young adults, and youth workers experience enriching sessions and activities that also serve as a blueprint for local, district, and jurisdictional-level work. Under the leadership of current Regional President, Pastor Larry Lewis (of the Northern Mississippi Jurisdiction), new departments have been added or expanded including: Orchestra, Liturgical Dance, Urban Initiatives , Nurse's Unit , Children 's Ministry, Young Women in Ministry, Young Preacher's Network, and Campus Ministry to name a few. President Lewis has also implemented the 21- Day Fast & Consecration leading up to the Annual Regional Rally that we may seek God for a change, restoration, and deliverance for every young person. Most exciting are the testimonies that come from the Consecration. We see the results of our prayers. Our young people's lives are being changed. Repentance and deliverance are taking place! Consequently, the SRIYD continues to grow and has become the model for other regions across the International Youth Department.

Yet, our primary focus and goal remain soul -winning. We serve so that souls are added to the Kingdom of God, no matter the denomination or background Our endeavor is to create an atmosphere that invites young ladies and gentlemen cry out and seek the face of God. We firmly believe that working with the youth secures the posterity of the church for generations to come .
